Rose or Thistle??

State Senator Paul McKinley should be given a ROSE not a thistle. I have served as a professional in special education for over 30 years-both in the public and private arenas. As the reading curriculum has become weaker and weaker, special education services have increased significantly.
Reading problems do effect the behavior of children and populations. Just look at the correlation between illiteracy and the prison population.
If more effective reading programs were implemented the "cash cow" of special education would certainly be dimished...much to the advantage to the students labeled "special ed".
Sincerely,
